Orkney Sailing Club

Orkney Sailing Club welcomes all visitors to the port of Kirkwall whether in a visiting yacht or just a tourist in the Islands. Kirkwall is an ideal base for touring the numerous northern islands of Orkney or a stop off en-route for Shetland or Norway.

There are five special mooring buoys situated throughout the islands for the use of visiting yachts. Their positions can be found in the Yacht information leaflet in the library section.

The Club runs RYA approved sailing courses and has several RYA instructors and senior instructors in its ranks and uses the club owned Wayfarers and Picos for instruction. On racing nights these boats are often used by past students. Members are usually willing to introduce new members to the sport by taking them as crew and give them a taste of sailing.

Point racing is held on a Thursday evening. Keep an eye on the events page for further updates.

The Club is conveniently located on the harbour front in a listed building known as "The Girnel" in Harbour Street. There are regular dances and functions all year round, check out the social events for a yearly diary of activities that cater for everyone. Unfortunately the Girnel remains closed due to current COVID restrictions but we look forward to the grand opening as restrictions are relaxed.
