WIN 2 TICKETS TO THE OPENING NIGHT OF ‘THE BEGGAR’S OPERA’ BY KAOS
This month’s prize is two tickets for the opening night of ‘The Beggar’s Opera’ performed by Kirkwall Amateur Operatic Society (KAOS) on February 6th 2018. Along with the tickets, there will also be a complimentary programme.
KAOS presents ‘The Beggar’s Opera’ by John Gay, in a new version for the Royal Shakespeare Company by John Caird and Ilona Sekacz, being performed in The Orkney Theatre 6-10 February 2018.
In this comic masterpiece, beggars and thieves create a world of love, lust, violence, deceit and greed. The music is brought up-to-date in a lively fusion of styles combining rock beats with folk melodies. Colourful songs include solos, duets, ensembles and rousing chorus numbers. The larger-than-life characters range from young lovers to highwaymen, pickpockets and whores.
Peachum, a purveyor of stolen goods, and his wife, are horrified to find that their only child, Polly, has fallen in love with, and worse still married, Captain Macheath, the famous highwayman. Peachum plots to have Macheath captured and hanged. Macheath is arrested and imprisoned by the corrupt jailer, Lockit, whose daughter Lucy turns out to be another of Macheath’s lovers.
This biting satire on money, marriage and morals is as relevant today as it was in the 18th century!
The ticket launch will take place on Saturday 9th December, further details will be available on the KAOS facebook page which you can find here. Please ‘like’ their page to stay up-t0-date with all their latest news.
