BID & Beyond is Back!

BID & Beyond is Back!

A Statement from Kirkwall BID, Tuesday 10 November 2020.

Kirkwall BID are delighted to have been awarded additional funding from Scotland’s Improvement Districts following a successful application under their second round of Resilience Funding from Scottish Government. The Covid-19 BID Resilience Fund aims to help BIDs provide a key response role within the local community, working with Local Authorities and key working groups/charities in the area.

Kirkwall BID are pleased to reinstate their popular ‘Kirkwall BID & Beyond’ Project immediately, and invite operational businesses outside the Kirkwall BID area to sign-up for business support, promotion and networking. The funding will allow BID & Beyond to continue until 31st March 2021, and the focus of the project will be reassessed continually during this period to reflect the ever-changing situation. Kirkwall BID suspended Levy payments for BID Members for the first half of the financial year, and 50% bills have been issued for the remainder of the year.

Kirkwall BID Consultant Laura Bruce will continue to head the project, “The response from businesses was really positive during the first phase of BID & Beyond, with over 90 businesses signing up from across Orkney. We hope to add more to this number. Any business can ask to join, but we will focus on areas which may be particularly adversely affected such as retail and hospitality. As part of this focus, we plan to extend our planned festive event across the Orkney mainland to involve as many businesses as possible.”

“Kirkwall BID are delighted to have received a larger percentage of funding in this second round and are thankful to Improvement Districts Scotland for their support and acknowledgement that we are doing great things in Orkney during this difficult time”.

BID Chair Duncan McLean added, "Receiving this fantastic amount of funding to be able to continue BID & Beyond for another five months is brilliant. Following on from our recent Scotland’s Towns Partnership High Street Heroes win, we’re feeling buoyed up and ready to do all we can to help businesses weather the winter months."
