Kirkwall BID Members Vote YES to a New 5-Year Term

The Kirkwall BID Board of Directors and Interim Manager Laura Bruce are delighted to announce that the renewal ballot was successful and Kirkwall BID will begin a new 5-year term from 1st April 2018.

Outgoing Chair Person Serena Sutherland of D&H said she was delighted with the result. “We would like to thank our members and also the public who have supported us through the renewal ballot.  We have many great plans for Kirkwall BID going into the new term and look forward to putting the Business Plan into action”.

The votes in the Kirkwall Business Improvement District Ballot have been counted and declared by the Deputy Returning Officer at the Council Offices in Kirkwall this morning. The minimum return rates in respect of rateable value and ratepayers have been met and the proposal to renew the Business Improvement District arrangements in Kirkwall town centre for a further 5 years has been approved by the majority of eligible non-domestic ratepayers in terms of numbers of votes and rateable values.

The return rate in respect of rateable value was 61%
The return rate in respect of ratepayers was 46%
The total number of votes cast, excluding votes rejected was 118
The number of ballot papers voting YES was 96
The number of ballot papers voting NO was 22
The aggregate rateable value of properties for ballot papers voting YES was £2,408,850
The aggregate rateable value of properties for ballot papers voting NO was £315,375
