Welcome to our second edition of On the Street with, where we find out a bit more about one of our Kirkwall BID businesses.
This time it is the turn of Lol, owner of CafeLolz @ 21, located at 21 Albert Street, Kirkwall. CafeLolz @ 21 specialise in home-cooked foods and quality homebakes.
Lol tells us she’s been at 21 Albert Street for 7 years just past in February, “we had a 7th birthday party giving all our customers fizz for the day!”
CafeLolz @ 21 have a great presence on social media, interacting with their customers, promoting their fresh salads and homebakes every day. A quick look through their facebook photos is enough to make anyone hungry, it all looks delicious!
From winter warmers to superfood salads, and homebakes to the purely indulgent…
…..there’s something for every palate at CafeLolz @ 21.
You’ll also find great coffee and a relaxed atmosphere (books available to peruse), which is child friendly (high chairs and toys), with free Wifi. Orkney beer, whisky, gin and a selection of wines also available from 11am. Let the helpful staff know of any dietary requirements and they will happily provide assistance with menu choices.
Cafelolz is available to hire for meetings, lunches, dinners or during the evening for parties. “I enjoy welcoming all our regular customers with a hug, kiss and a smile!! They say that’s why they come back.”
Lol tells us she hardly has time to eat out in Kirkwall herself, as all her friends come to visit her in CafeLolz, and it means she can join them for a cuppa or lunch! Her top tips for keeping her customers happy? “providing consistency in our baking, lunches and coffee and also happy smiling staff.”
Following the news of Kirkwall BID’s successful renewal ballot, we asked Lol what she loved the most about the Kirkwall BID area. “I love the new canopy lighting and lights at the Cathedral.”
“Running an independent business is a daily juggling act, keeping an eye on overheads, keeping food wastage to a minimum, trying to keep staff turnover to a minimum.” but it’s clear that Lol enjoys what she does and is evident in the great reviews on facebook, their nomination for the Crema 2018 Scottish Café awards and their award as “Best Home Baking Premises in Scotland 2013/2014”.
Cafelolz @ 21 is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4.30pm and from 1st April, Sundays 11.30am to 3.30pm.
