  • Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Kirkwall

Kirkwall BID invites all members to get involved with our Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we've lots of promotional activities lined up:

Lunch on the Lawn

Our main event for the Jubilee celebrations will be our public gathering on the Kirk Green between 12-3pm on Saturday 4th June.
You're invited to visit a local cafe/restaurant/shop to get some food or snacks then to join us on the Kirk Green for some Royal celebrations. We'll have live music and entertainment throughout the 3 hours, as well as croquet for the children and our special Doggy Photo Booth.

Decorate a Jubilee Crown

We've created a fabulous Kirkwall BID Jubilee Crown design image, but we couldn't think of how to decorate it! So we're asking the public to collect a blank image from any of the local jewellery-selling shops in Kirkwall, and work their magic by decorating, colouring or painting their amazing design. Completed designs can be returned to any of the same businesses, where each shop will display the designs and choose their favourite. The selected crown will be shared on social media, and win a prize.

Poetry fit for a Queen?

We're inviting the public of all ages to write a special poem to commemorate this occassion. It may be in local dialect, acrostic or anything else! We've teamed up with The Orcadian Bookshop and Grooves Toys as our main book worm haunts, to ask them to judge their favourites and the winners will receive a prize and their poem will be shared on our website and social media channels. You can collect a poetry entry form from either of the businesses mentioned above, or use plain paper.

Her Majesty's Favourite Four-Legged Friends!

Her Majesty is of course very fond of her dogs, and to honour this, we'll be advertising our local businesses who stock pet products. We'll also be working with North Vet, who will support us for our Doggie Photo Booth which will be open at the Lunch on the Lawn event (as mentioned above.) People can bring their pooches for a professional pet portrait courtesy of Kirkwall BID.
