On Wednesday 28th November 2019, we were asked to meet with David Stewart, MSP for Highlands & Islands. Mr Stewart was in Orkney for his Parlimentary role (Shadow Minister for Health in the Scottish Parliament) as well has holding a political surgery on Wednesday evening.
It was not the best weather for an hour walking the street, but that didn't dampen Mr Stewart's interest in what Kirkwall BID have been doing. He congratulated us on this weeks great news - winning Scotland's Most Beautiful High Street, and complimented Kirkwall BID for our beautiful winter lighting around the town. We managed to tie-in this tour with some BID duties - delivering the Black Friday Treasure Hunt packs to businesses! This meant that Mr Stewart got to meet several business owners around Kirkwall and hear about the challenges and opportunities we see in our town centre. Although it was only a short visit, there were lots of discussion topics, including; cruise liners, road safety, living wage, as well as how our BID operates, funding levels and events.
Thanks to Mr Stewart for reaching out to us, we enjoyed showing you some of the Kirkwall BID area.
