There’s no need to be scared though. This happy Halloween celebration, which gets underway this Saturday 14th October, is about fun rather than frights. With the main spooktacular taking place on Saturday 28th October.  It’s a great day out for all the family – one guaranteed to raise your spirits, while laying the ghosts of summer to rest.

Enchanted? Then read on…

Halloween Parade
Are you a ghost, a ghoul, a witch or a warlock? Maybe you’re Spiderman, a Pokémon, or even Buzz Lightyear. We don’t care what you wear for our special fancy dress Halloween parade, or how young or old you are, as long as you’ve got a fun costume and want to show it off.thumb_IMG_1147_1024

Taking part is dead easy. The parade, lead by Kirkwall City Pipe Band, will leave from the harbour end of Bridge Street at 3pm, winding its way through the town to Victoria Street. It’ll then stop for a while on Broad Street for a few pipe tunes and a performance from Just Dance, with spectators getting the chance to get a good look at all the fantastic costumes.  All the cars on the street will have been spirited away too, adding to the party atmosphere.  After the Broad Street performances, the parade will head down Victoria Street where it will come to a gruesome end. Kindly watching over proceedings will be the Emergency Care Medical Group, so the parade’s safe, as well as spooky. We also remind participants not to carry lanterns with naked flames.

Scream if you’re having fun
Grown ups enjoy Halloween just as much as the kids these days. Luckily, Sound Archive is throwing a Halloween party for over 18s on the night of the Spooktacular, with live music from electric Mother. It starts at 9pm and you are, of course, invited to wear a costume.  Lots of bars in the town will be serving up Halloween themed cocktails too.

Ghost Hunt
It’s Halloween, so naturally there are ghosts all over the town! They’re friendly ones, but we still need your help in finding them. Last time we heard, they were hiding in shops and businesses throughout Kirkwall town centre, so become a spook sleuth and go track them down. You’ll find entry forms for the ghost hunt in
Ghost hunt plaque 3the Orkney Library or at Kairds on Albert Street.

Find a minimum of 20 Kirkwall ghosts, then take your completed entry form to Kairds on Albert Street and claim your FREE  Ghost Hunter Reward!

You can download your Ghost Hunt Entry Form Ghost Hunt Form 2017.

It’s all going to be a phantastic spooktacle, so summon your ghostly presence to town and join in the freaky family fun!
