OISF's Virtual Molecule Hunt 2020

This will be the tenth successive year of the Molecule Hunt in Kirkwall. This year however, OISF have found it necessary to employ a different approach. Covid-19 has forced them to adopt a virtual approach for this year’s event. As usual they have selected 20 businesses in Kirkwall town centre. These are listed below and their locations are shown on the map. Each of these has been assigned a molecule which is associated with the nature of the business. A model of each molecule has been constructed and images of each of these molecules is shown below. Each business has taken a photograph of their molecule and posted this on their Facebook page or website. (Please note that there are only 18 to identify as Cycle Orkney and Visit Scotland are no longer taking part)

Your challenge is to visit each business Facebook page (or website for those that don’t have a FB page) in turn and identify which molecule is on display. For those lucky enough to live in Kirkwall you may also be able to visit the shop and see the model on display. You then complete the entry form by entering the name of the appropriate business beside each molecule name and submit the form through the OISF website or send it to: [email protected]

Don’t forget to add your own contact details and any comments you wish to make about the competition.

All entries must be received by 6pm on Wednesday 16th September. They will then be checked for accuracy and correct entries will be entered into a draw to select the winner.

The winner will receive an amazing Molymod® molecule building kit http://www.molymod.com/sets.html

The first 50 entries will be rewarded with a “periodic table pen” – see picture below:
