We met with Iona Rosie, Marketing Co-ordinator for The Orkney Distillery, to hear about their latest launch - Rysa.
“Rysa was launched on 10th April 2025, it’s a small batch, blended malt Scotch whisky, made with elements from some of Scotland’s finest single malt distilleries, including Orkney. Rysa has
been expertly blended in house by our Malt Maverick, Tony Reeman Clark.”
“Named after the uninhabited Orkney Island of Rysa, it embodies the spirit of Scotland’s
northernmost landscapes - bold, balanced, and smooth. Rysa’s launch has been very well
received, those who have sampled the blended malt Scotch whisky have thoroughly enjoyed its
peaty notes.”
As a peated whisky, it has an intriguing smokiness with strong hints of raisin, burnt leather and
lingering dried fruits. Rysa also represents a contrast to The Orkney Distillery’s first blended
malt release, Fara, with its sweet notes of heather honey and vanilla. Fara was launched on
World Whisky Day 2024.
The Orkney Distillery currently runs two Gin Tours and one Whisky Tour every day that they are
open, where you have the opportunity to sample both Fara and Rysa. To book a tour, click here.
The countdown is on for The Orkney Distillery's Single Malt whisky, which is set to mature in
early 2027. The Orkney Distillery launched The Latitude 59 Club, which offers an exclusive
whisky investment opportunity to 59 members. Members will become a company shareholder,
secure one of the first 59 100-litre casks produced at the Distillery, along with a host of other
exclusive benefits. This is a unique opportunity for whisky lovers to own a piece of Orkney
history. More information on The Latitude 59 Club can be found by clicking here.
It’s not just gin and whiskey that people can enjoy - The Orkney distillery will be launching a
limited batch of their first rum in the upcoming weeks. This will be a spiced rum, with notes of
vanilla, dried fruits and citrus.
There are lots of exciting things happening at The Orkney Distillery and the future is looking
bold for them.
