Prevention and Protection

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service works to protect every community not only by responding to incidents, but also by preventing them from happening in the first place.

Home Fire Safety Visits

Staff are trained to help residents lower the risk of a fire starting and how to raise their chances of escape. Our crews conduct hundreds of FREE Home Fire Safety Visits every year and even fit free smoke alarms.

Spreading the Fire Safety Message

Fire can strike anywhere at any time and crews work hard to prevent tragedy striking.

Engaging with Schools and Community Groups

Firefighters are at the heart of their communities and will work with various organisations for a safer Orkney.

Response and Resilience

There’s more to our emergency response than you might think.

Firefighting

We deal with fires that cause damage to property, vehicles and their loads. We also deal with many different kinds of rural and rubbish fires.

Road Traffic Collisions

These form a large part of our front line service and we work hard to reduce their impact

Specialist Rescue

Our highly trained crews work to safely rescue those in need.

Resilience

Orkney both expects and deserves an effective response to an emergency. That’s why we work in conjunction with our partner agencies to plan and train so that we are prepared to face major emergencies and disruptive challenges.
